The EPFL offers exchange opportunities to 3rd year Bachelor and 1st year Master students according to their Programme, or to complete their Master project in another university. An exchange year must not extend the study duration, which is why a study plan should be established in agreement with your Programme's exchange coordinator so as to guarantee academic recognition acknowledgment upon your return.

A  borchure called "Vous avez dit Mobilité" is updated annually and has details of all the possibilities available.

Steps to be taken

  • Come to the information sessions in autumn the year before the exchange
  • Give preference to year-long exchanges
  • Go through the host university's study plans as soon as possible and read the reports written by students who have returned from an exchange
  • Obtain the exchange application form below
  • Contact the exchange coordinator of your school in order to submit the proposed study plan for your time abroad and get their agreement
  • Pass the language tests at the EPFL Language Center
  • Submit the completed form to the Student Exchange Office before the deadline for your exchange. The office will then forward your details to the partner universities
  • Complete the host university's forms, which are issued by the Student Exchange Office
  • Give thought to practical issues such as accommodation, visas, travel arrangements, health and accident insurance and military leave as soon as possible
  • Pass your EPFL exams before leaving
  • Gain international reach before leaving by joining Xchange.
